A 1906 Craftsman, reimagined

A House with a Past

The Craft House Inn was built in 1906, one of the early Craftsman homes that filled Santa Barbara’s West Downtown neighborhood as it grew, just a short walk from the shops and restaurants of State Street. More than a century later, its character-defining details survive: wide overhanging eaves, diamond-paned leaded glass, and the original wood front door.

The home has worn many hats over the years. For a time it was the Main House of the old Glenborough Inn, and according to a 1980 innkeeper’s flyer, one of its upstairs rooms once belonged to the daughter of Santa Barbara County’s first Recorder. In 2023, the City of Santa Barbara recognized the home’s history and integrity by listing it on the Historic Resources Inventory as a Structure of Merit.

Then & Now

A Careful Revival

Hearth Hospitality acquired the property in 2021 and, after a thoughtful top-to-bottom renovation, relaunched it as The Craft House Inn in 2023.

Every one of the home’s five bedrooms and five-and-a-half bathrooms was reimagined for the way people travel today: contactless check-in, on-demand staff, premium beds and linens, smart TVs, and full kitchens, all wrapped in the warmth of a home rather than a hotel. The goal was simple, to honor a hundred years of history while making the house feel effortless for the next hundred.
